  Eating Nutritional Food and Exercising

The children will understand the importance of eating nutritional foods and being active. Tell the children that today we are going to talk about eating foods that are good for our bodies. Not only is it important to eat foods that help us grow, but we all should get plenty of exercise every day.

Explain to the children why it is important that we eat foods that have vitamins and nourish our bodies. If we do not eat foods that are healthy for us, our bodies and minds will not grow strong like they are supposed to. If we do not exercise, our muscles will be weak.

Discuss what some of the foods that they might think are healthy. Ask them if they can name some fruits or vegetables. Ask them if they can think of any ways they exercise every day. Give them specific examples of activities and ask them if they think it is considered exercise. Ask about television, video games, kick ball or jumping rope.

Read the story The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food.

Talk about what the problem was with the children's eating habits. What did they do to fix the problem? Talk about their own eating habits. Are they healthy?

Hand out pictures of fruits, vegetables, whole grain, milk and proteins. Also include foods that are not nutritional. Talk about and identify which foodsare good for our bodies to make us strong and healthy. Serve a healthy lunch andhelp the children identify healthy foods.

  Talking to Strangers

The children will realize that it is not safe to talk to strangers. Begin by having the kids name some of the people we know. We know our parents, our families, our neighbors, and maybe even our postman. What do we call people we do not know? Strangers. Should we talk to strangers? Are all strangers bad?

Read the story The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers. How did sister help brother from making a mistake? The man had a model airplane that brother really liked and he almost got into the car with him. He forgot all about the man being a stranger.

We have to remember that even when a stranger has something we really want we cannot talk to them or go with them or take anything from them. When you see a stranger do you talk to them? Can we take things from them? Can we go anywhere with them? NO! We have to remember to do all of these things so that we can stay safe. Discuss dangerous situations with the children.
